The bill has now been withdrawn but let's understand what it is and explore the pros and cons of the bill. Delimitation is the process of fixing limits or boundaries used to allocate equal representation in state and national assemblies as per the population of the constituency. The bill aims to redraw Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies as per the 2011 census increasing the number of seats from 543 to 850. The opposition is questioning the use of 2011 census instead of the 2026 census. The bill also aims to include 1/3 reservation in assemblies for women in order to bring about equality of oppurtunity.
