Book Review of The Assist
Book Review Of The Assist
Good Morning,My name is Siddharth.Today I am going to be reviewing the story “The Assist” from the book “ The Hero Next Door" .This story is written by Linda Sue Park and Anna Dobin. We were given three stories to choose from to review about. I chose “The Assist” as I had already read Linda Sue Park’s book Storm Warning from the 39 Clues series and it was one of my favorite books.Coming to the story “The Assist” fits into the genre of Realistic Fiction as it is based on real life elements such as school, homework, grades, football and friendship. The story takes place in a school and a football ground. The main characters are the UN and Noah. You might be wondering what the UN is,right? Even I did.The school’s football coach calls Eddie and his friends The UN as they are ethnically diverse and each one of them was from a different country. This sounded so fun that I wanted to have an UN of my own. They also do the hardest exercise drills on the planet called fartleks.Just reading about the drill made me sweat and I was happy that they hadn’t implemented it in my basketball class. The students were also very close to each other and were ready to help one another whenever any problem occured. It also showed the bond between the team members and how playing together can connect you to others and make you friends for life.I could relate to this a lot as it has happened to me in my life, making the story seem very realistic. The author does a marvelously terrific job of making me feel like I was seeing it from the stadium. The way she made me picturize made me feel like I was watching the match as a spectator.I could imagine Eddie curve kicking the ball and Noah scoring from near the goalpost. The main characters are very believable as I could relate Eddie to one of my friends who plays football well and is always ready to help anyone whenever they ask.I could also associate Noah to my classmate who gets low grades but plays football exceptionally well. The author makes us conjure up an illustration of the characters in our mind.I loved the way the author used the words as it was very illustrative and had lots of sensory details in it.The scenes from the match were page turners and extremely suspenseful. The scene which really moved me was when Eddie missed the pasta party which he loved to attend before big games so that he could help Noah with his homework. This was very touching as he showed this very selfless act of kindness to his teammate who could play in the game only if he got good grades. The Assist was a glorious book about sports, school life, friendship and some of the characters were very similar to what I experience in my day to day life.My my favorite character was Eddie as he was selfless and led the team from the front. He also was very determined to win the game even though things were looking grim during halftime. My favorite scene was when Eddie passed the ball to Noah and Noah scored as this scene was very descriptive and action packed.
I would like to recommend this book to people who want to read a lighthearted and fun mix story.
