THAI CAVE RESCUE

กู้ภัยถ้ำไทย(Thai Cave Rescue)-When the stake of the lives of thirteen brought the world together.

The Thai Cave Rescue was the onerous extraction of 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped in the Tham Luang Nang Non Cave in 2018.

The boys and the coach were part of a soccer team called the Wild Boars. They went to the Tham Luang Nang Non cave and got trapped as they were not aware of the storm outside. The cave system is 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) long and has many deep recesses, narrow passages and tunnels winding under hundreds of meters of limestone strata. The Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Thailand's Chiang Rai province was formed by groundwater erosion over a long period of time. The limestone was the main reason for the cave's flooding and it acts like a sponge.

The boys went without food or clean water for 11 days until 2nd July 2018 when British divers John Volanthen and Rick Stanton found them 4 km into the cave. The rescue effort involved as many as 10,000 people, including more than 100 divers, scores of rescue workers, representatives from about 100 governmental agencies, 900 police officers, and 2,000 soldiers. Ten police helicopters, seven ambulances, more than 700 diving cylinders, and the pumping of more than one billion liters of water from the caves were required. After vigilant brainstorming of ideas, the rescuers were to anesthetize the boys and swim them out 4 km. Many people were involved in the rescue but the main people include divers John Volanthen, Rick Stanton, Jason Mallinson, Chris Jewell. Even despite these many people the heroes of this operation were Craig Challen and Dr. Richard Harris from Australia. These both were the ones who anesthetized the children and swum them out personally. Other people who played an important role in the rescue were Governor Narongsak, Erik Brown, and Ben Reymenants. The only person who succumbed to the monstrous cave during the hysterically terrifying rescue was retired Navy SEAL Saman Gunan. He had been delivering air tanks and was on his way out of the cave when he ran out of air and lost consciousness. This is the story of the rescue.

You might be thinking "yes, the outside operation was difficult but what were the struggles that the boys faced?". So to answer your question, the boys struggled a lot and suffered a mental trauma between life and death that would leave a mark in their brains forever. They did not have food or clean water to drink for 11 days. Another problem that they faced was that oxygen levels were running low and it was becoming fatal for their bodies. The oxygen levels were getting so low that they started to hallucinate. We also need to know what were their survival methods right? Well they survived only because of their coach who taught them to stay calm and meditate which helped them keep their hunger away. He also taught them survival skills and kept their morale high with the belief that some one would save them. The second reason they survived was because they were soccer players so the boys were fit.

I was very interested to learn more about this particular rescue, so I saw a documentary on Netflix called The Thai Cave Rescue. To start, I was enchanted by the magical beauty of Thailand's mountains. The scenery was extremely picturesque  and I was left baffled at first sight. Next I could not describe how bewildered I was when I noticed the cultural similarity between Thailand and India. One of the similarities I noticed was how similar their greeting was to ours. The wai and the namaste are like practically the same greeting except for the language you use when you talk. The other similarity I noticed was in the food and how they used lots of spices in their cooking. The third similarity which I noticed was the climate which was exactly like India. Some places hot, some humid and some cold. I also recognised that the bond between parents and children and the respect they give to adults was also similar.

Another thing I found out was that the number of problems the rescuers ran into was innumerable. For every solution they found they encountered into another problem. Overall, The Tham Luang rescue is one of the most strenuous rescue operations in the world but thanks to the efforts of thousands of people, the rescue operation was a success.

This shows that the society, the world can amalgamate together for a greater cause in the name of humanity. The story of these innocent boys shows how the world is still altruistic .The whole world united together to save the lives of 12 boys and their coach even despite the fact that they weren't benefited in any aspect.
