 Andaman(A Perfect Destination):Part 3:Portblair

Day-1-Cellular Jail

We left from Neil Island a bit before lunchtime. We grabbed the ferry after getting drenched in the stormy rains of Neil Island. The ship was rocking and rolling like it was going on Bengaluru roads and trust me that's extremely harsh and uneven. I throwed up twice and I was feeling extremey cold as I was already wet and air conditioning was on.I was drenched and extremely annoyed but reaching Port Blair helped me throw away the angriness. We took a cab and reached Hotel Shompen. The rooms were extremely cosy and I was resting by watching "the world's greatest cartoon" Chota Bheem. It was extremely fun to watch and when we decided to leave for Cellular Jail, I had an extremely sentimental departure with the Laddoo King.

We reached Cellular Jail about 20 minutes later. It was an architectural marvel but little did I know there were years of misery and pain hidden behind the building. We went through the museum and I saw about all the struggles that all Indian Freedom Fighters went through in the Freedom Struggle. I read about Veer Savarkar and his famous exploits and even visited his cell in the jail. I was very amazed to see how well designed the Cellular Jail was created even though its purpose was menacing. It did what it was meant to do perfectly. It was made in a solitary confining method which tortured prisoners to an extreme extent. As I saw the cells I could understand the terror that the freedom fighters went through as they went to Kalapani Jail. I realized how much pride it is to be a citizen of a nation that worked so hard to gain its sovereignity. We reached the hotel room after taking some photos at the watch tower.Tomorrow was going to be exciting as I was going to Chidiya Tapu, one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

Day-2-Chidiya Tapu

After a wonderful morning breakfast at Hotel Shompen we decided to leave for Ross Island.Unfortunately rain struck, always at the wrong place at the wrong time causing Ross Island to be closed. I was looking forward a lot for Ross Island but Chidiya Tapu remained. We were forced into our rooms by an imminently increasing rain.We decided we couldn't stay that way and we had to go somewhere without wasting a day of the trip so we bought 3 matching purple raincoats, rented a scooter, and travelled 28 scenic kilometres to Chidiya Tapu.It was extremely fun as it was drizzling the whole way and it was a wonderful adventure, speeding through the rain. When we reached , there was a picturesque beach that called out to me to swim but unfortunately there were hungry crocodiles further in too and everyone knows the greatest kid in the world should probably taste good so I opted out and knew it was a wise choice. It was a beauty of its own a calm sea with trees in the middle of a humongous archipelago. There was no one in Chidiya Tapu due to the heavy rain except us so we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves like a private island.

We began the trek going through beautiful forests with natural steps. After 20 minutes of continous trekking, I had gotten the most breathtakingly spectacular view of my life. It felt like heaven on earth. We were on a peak and we could see other islands nearby and from the peak, you could see the bottom of bird island stretching into the sea with dead trees and extremely blue water. It looked like it was out of a movie and was a fascinating sight. It was like the photos my cousins sent from Thailand and I was extremely jovial that we didn't stay inside due to the rain but came out to one of the most alluring and underknown destinations in the world of mankind. Chidiya Tapu is a underexplored dream destination for energetic explorers who want to find peace. We enjoyed the view for some more time and trekked back down.Tomorrow was the day I had been looking forward to two months before the trip.I caught up on some much needed sleep that night as tomorrow was going to be tiring.

Day 3-The Jarawa

I woke up at 3 am in the morning to leave to Baratang. The Baratang Cave is situated on an island 101.5 kilometres north of Port Blair. It is most famous for the journey across the Jarawan Reserve. The Jarawas are one of the only indigenous but civilization welcoming tribes. I will post another blog on the tribes of Andaman & Nicobar but I will give you some basic information on the Jarawas now. The Jarawas were initially attacking all Indian citizens and poachers whom they saw near their land but when the Indian Government provided medical services to a Jarawan boy it paved the path for connections between the tribe and the government. We left Port Blair and as we journeyed I took a quick nap of well, the whole trip. Once we reached the Jarawan territory , I rose to see stalls were we had breakfast at 5 o clock. We had our aadhars checked and got the permits. After about an hour of waiting , we crossed Jarawan territory with a police convoy. While going, I saw 2 Jarawan boys wearing shorts and shirts which was not the way I had pictured them. After countless more minutes of staring at each side for Jarawas , we reached the port where we climbed a ferry across the backwaters.I had gotten a small glimpse of the Jarawas earlier and I was anxiously hoping I would see more of them. The thought that I had not seen many of them yet made the experience not feel worthwhile.

We reached another Jetty where we had to take a motorboat to the Baratang Cave. The motorboat ride was epic. We were going so fast that I couldn't hear myself yelling. My voice was carried away by the wind and my hair started sticking up due to the speed. Water started splashing on us now and then but the view was legendary. I was soaring through the backwaters on a motorboat and I could see forests on either side filled with mangroves and unique trees. But in the distance you could see a couple of mountains filled with trees towering above everything else. The water added on to the stunning sight enchanting one of the most amazing view in India. We reached a pier on which we got down near the Baratang Cave. we took a 1 kilometre walk to the cave. Once we reached there I was amazed. I had never seen a cave in my life and the stalcites and stalgamites and helicitites were kind of spooky ,no joke. I was wishing I had my torch but the experience was sure cool. I scared my parents and we had lot of fun thinking about what we would do if we got trapped there. On the way back,we saw mud volcanoes which were cool but not as great as it was shown on youtube. I slept on the way back on the car but woke as my parents shook me as there were Jarawa. I sat up but I saw them only for a split second as we had passed them. There were about eight of them and they seemed to be wearing clothes made from forest items as far as I could see.I was happy to have seen them , so  our experience was successful. I slept yet again and roused only when we reached our hotel room. We played cards, saw movies and slept that night but we were leaving back to the mainland tomorrow.

Day 4-Departure

I woke up the next day and had a filling breakfast.I was extremely forlorn to leave one of the most magical islands but fun cannot go on forever,I had to get back to my regular life. I had the best of experiences in the island paradise. Scuba Diving,Swimming in Beaches,Going to Caves and exploring new places. This was the most thrillingly extraordinary trip ever but I was taking back good memories and that was the best thing. That thought comforted me as I hopped on the plane thinking about my whole trip.
