9 year old Rio lives in London with his American mother. His mother’s depression becomes very serious. She has to go to the hospital for 4 weeks. Rio got sent to California to stay with his grandmother. Even despite the beautiful coasts of California, Rio can’t stop missing his mother. One day His grandmother shows him his mother’s sketchbook full of whales. He sees a whale called white beak who looks very different because of the parasites on it’s nose. When he takes the sketch of White Beak and stares at the beach he meets a girl called Marina whose father owns whale watching tours. She invites him on a whale watching tour in which they spot White Beak. The whale is connected with his mother as she used to spot it when she was young, So he wanted to capture photos of the whale and send it to his mother so that it would make her feel better and recover faster. When he goes Whale Watching he discovers his special ability to hear whales .After some days, White Beak is in danger!!Rio was overwhelmed with a mixture of feelings and wanted to save white beak. What can Rio do to help her?

Read the book to find out!!!

The book was very touching and you could emotionally connect with Rio and the way it was described made you connect with White Beak and actually imagine the whale very well. I felt the title could have been more dramatic. After reading the story, I wanted to go on whale watching tours and spot grey whales.
