Book: Holes Author: Louis Sachar Summary: Stanley Yelnats was at the wrong place and at the wrong time. He had been arrested for stealing the shoes of a baseball player who was going to sell it and donate the money to charity. He hadn't exactly stolen them, they had fallen on him when he was walking on the road. The shoes looked old and Stanley decided to take it home as his father was working on a project to recycle old shoes. At the court he was given the option to go to juvenile or Camp Green Lake. He and his parents choose Camp Green Lake as it sounded like a summer camp. But when Stanley reaches Camp Green Lake, he sees no Green or Lake. He finds out it is a reeducation camp where child criminals are forced to dig holes exactly 5 feet in width and 5 feet in height. They are given less water, food and just a four minute shower. He makes friends with Zero, X-Ray, Armpit, Squid, Magnet and Zigzag who have named themselves that even though it is not their real names. But wha...

Book Review of The Assist

Book Review Of The Assist Good Morning,My name is Siddharth.Today I am going to be reviewing the story “The Assist” from the book “ The Hero Next Door" .This story is written by Linda Sue Park and Anna Dobin. We were given three stories to choose from to review about. I chose “The Assist” as I had already read Linda Sue Park’s book Storm Warning from the 39 Clues series and it was one of my favorite books .Coming to the story  “The Assist”  fits into the genre of Realistic Fiction as it is  based on real life elements such as school, homework, grades, football and friendship. The story takes place in a school and a football ground. The m ain characters are the UN and Noah. You might be wondering what the UN is,right? Even I did.The school’s football coach calls Eddie and his friends The UN as they are ethnically diverse and each one of them was from a different country. This sounded so fun that I wanted to have an UN of my own. They also do the hardest exercise drills on t...

KASHMIR : A SNOW PARADISE DAY 2 SRINAGAR

Image
I  had a hard time waking up the next morning as it was a freezing -2.I finally got up and stretched my arms out and remembered that I was in India's most beautiful state,Kashmir.I ran for the window expecting snowfall.I yanked the curtains open but my smile turned into a frown.I was thwarted by the dry cold weather and was eminently disappointed and hoped there would be snowfall in the other places we were going to visit.I got ready and was racing downstairs for breakfast. They had a huge buffet but I ate Chocos, naan and some Paneer Butter Masala. I also tried an extremely scrumptious Kashmiri dessert called Phirni.I took a walk outside to get used to the cold till our driver came. We were going to a temple called Shankaracharya Temple with a view point.I had to climb 500 steps to reach the top and the chilness in the air sucked the energy out of me and wouldn't let me breath.I was about to collapse when I reached the top but the view saved me.It was indubitably tranquil a...

My Hyderabad Trip-Part 2

Image
Have you ever acted in out a movie scene in the shooting spot of an iconic film which has won the National Film Award? Well I have. Let me tell you have this all started. We were in the second and last day of our 2-day trip to Hyderabad. We had decided to go to Ramoji Film City which was the biggest film city in India covering over 2000 acres. Pretty impressive, huh! It was an hour's drive from our hotel and we reached there. They had many tour package options and we chose the star package as it had the huge advantages of skipping lines, AC buses in the tiresome weather and 100 rupee coupons in the souvenir stores. We had to wait in the lounge were we got 3 boxes of chocolates and 6 water bottles. We didn't wait much and our bus arrived in 5 minutes. It was a 10 minute drive from the ticket counter to the actual film city. We had a tour guide who took us to all the places and explained what movies were shot there. First, we went to a room with many automatic doors were we lear...

My Hyderabad Trip-Part 1

Have you gone to a city in your country which doesn't feel like part of your country at all?  After a long 10 hour journey from Bangalore, We reached Hyderabad late night at 1:30 AM. We woke up on a Sunday morning after an extremely fatigue ride. After a scrumptious south Indian breakfast, We walked to the metro station which was just 1 km away from our hotel. Walking through the roads of Hyderabad, I was wondering to myself whether this was really India or somewhere in a foreign country, the roads were extremely clean and very wide. It was way better than Bangalore which I used to think was the best city in India. In cities like  Bangalore and Chennai, I needed both my eyes to see half of the train but here, I could see all the four compartments with just half my eye. First we went on the metro to MG Road and then caught an auto to the Salar Jung Museum. The museum was mainly about Indian freedom fighters and had a huge collection of the toys the Nawabs owned. I was sur...
